Weekend Glimpses

Warning: this weekend glimpses is Prince heavy.  Saturday I took the little Prince out alone while the Monkey spent the day with daddy.  It's been since I don't know when that we got any alone time with either, outside of sick days home from school that is...not quite the same.  The Prince and I spent the afternoon at the Children's Museum, by which I mean most of the afternoon in the play kitchen.  $20 spent to change the location of where he plays in the kitchen.  Awesome.

We played a little in the rain.  I always have this picture of fall in my head of sugar plum fairies and cozy sweaters and beautiful chilly days.  Then it comes and laughs at me.

Time to reshelf (reshelve?  WTH is the word??) the alcohol section?!? (Please disregard the state of disarray!  And yes, this is actually AFTER I cleaned it)

Side note:  I actually looked this up because I couldn't figure it out on my own.  Here is what I found:
It has to be "reshelve", reshelf is the appendant noun.
It goes like "to halve" and "half", "to prove" and "proof"...

Ummm...yaaaa...thanks for nothing.  PSS - if I weren't so tired and under fed I would look up 'appendant noun' but this is becoming waaaaay more trouble than it is worth.  Time to MOVE the alcohol.  How's that for an English major?  God love a Texas education.

Checking out the growing pumpkin.  Too bad it isn't ours.

 HAMMER!  HAMMER!!

May I take your order?  Coffee?  You don't want coffee?  Have some!  Try it!  Just take a sip!  You like it??

Working the register.  Oh ya, I see some income potential coming in off this kid!

The Prince's New Artwork

I've been working on a canvas for the Prince's room for a while now.  Actually, it's the same canvas that originally was in his room that once looked like this...

...until he tore it apart.  I will say it was put together quickly while I was HUGELY pregnant (you would think after two years I would forgive him for being 10 POUNDS(!!!) but alas, I am still working through that.  Anyhoo, the new artwork has come with surges of inspiration followed by surges of nothing.  I'm debating whether it's done though I don't feel that it isn't quite there yet.

The progression...

As it is today...

Some close ups...

Around the Kitchen

I've been trying really hard lately to make dinners for the family.  In which the following usually pursues:

Me: Okay, time to eat!
Monkey: Yay!  Oh...what is this?  I don't like this!
Prince: No!  I want to plaaaaay!!
Me: Prince, it's time to eat.  Aren't you hungry?
Prince:  Okay...(insert looking at food)...I'm not hungry, I just go to bed.
Me: Awesome.
Daddy: Prince, we need to ea....(insert phone ringing, daddy answering, getting up from table and going upstairs)
Monkey:  I doooooon't waaaaaant thiiiiiiiis.
Prince:  I dooooon't waaaaant to eaaaaat.
Me:  F it. (insert opening adult beverage)

Oh joy.  I just LOVE dinner time.

I would like to take this time to say thank you to Laurelwood Pumpkin Ale for always being there for me when no one else is.  Well, at least from September until October when your ass sells out and I once again feel abandoned by your love.

A better rounded blog

Why hello long lost friends!  Friend?  Anyone?  Helllllloooooo??  So it's been a while.  I've been away raising kids, cleaning to only have things uncleaned five seconds later and working yet always trying to catch up.  Normal life, am I right?  Well, in that time I've been pondering things (insert husband asking if that hurt).  While it would take days to write about all the random thoughts that go through my head, and the fact that no one should be exposed to that, I came up with the fact that I am going to change my blog.  And by change, I mean A) actually start writing on my blog B) make it a more well rounded blog about all aspects of my life and C) start living more creatively.  My imagination knows no bounds.  Like real life vs imaginary for example, but back to the task at hand.

Why change you may ask?  This is something I have been pondering for awhile but just haven't pursued.  I feel like there isn't a blog that I have found that I really relate to.  There are a lot of great blogs out there and don't get me wrong, I can get lost on them for HOURS.  But blogs of 40 something professionals with young kids?  Make that 40 something interested in fashion, part time artist raising a vegetarian family while losing her mind and I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist.  I haven't found it.  If you know of some email me!

I hope you enjoy my blog. :)

Closet Update

There's a floor!!!!  Who knew?!?  Downstairs hall closet done.  This cleaning out thing is fun.  Maybe I'll quit my day job and become a professional organizer.  Top left on shelf - sunscreen, pool bags and hats in box, monkey backpack (aka legal child leash) and then bags - gym, feed bag for farmer's market and backpack we use when out with kids.  Shelves on floor hold winter hats and scarves which will eventually end up in side tables on either side of the bench in the entry but I haven't found what I am looking for yet.  Back of closet holds the array of suitcases, us being avid world travelers and all (not), and vacuums we have yet to part with even though we have in-house vacuum here.  And I will never EVER live anywhere without.  I don't care if I have to install it myself.

In other news, my aunt posted this on facebook yesterday and it totally made me laugh.  And weep with truth because coffee owns my a**.  I just can't quit you!!

Around the house

I took the weekend off from taking too many pictures.  I'm not going to point any fingers, but it may have been due to a small tow headed prince who was super fussy and not sleeping.  Maaaaay have been.  The good news is that I am in super-power-ranger-cleaning out phase.  And no, there is no monkey or prince want to be hiding in the belly.  If that were the case, I wouldn't be nesting.  I'd be hopping a plane for Africa.  Anyhoo, back to the task(s) at hand.  Sorry for the lack of before pictures but seeing as all my genius work is performed on a whim, this was no different.  Picture me walking by a room (usually on my way to do a different, more pressing task), stopping in my tracks, exclaiming 'I can't handle this anymore!  Too much crap!  Where did all this crap come from?  Who needs this many ______ (fill in the blank - toys, bags, shoes, diapers for newborns without there being any newborns...you get the picture).  So I have bags and bags of stuff that will be going to people who need these things.  Who don't have clothes for interviews, don't have the means to purchase toys, who need baby supplies.  I apologize for the serious rant and will get back to funny now.

The wasn't hardly set foot in formal playroom (that there is a joke.  We call it that because technically it's a super small formal dining.  The dining in the kitchen is a HUGE open space that can accommodate our 10 person table no sweat.  This dining space may tightly fit four or six.  Am I the only one this doesn't make sense to?!?)  It used to have a kids table in the middle and tons of toys on the shelves.  Moved in some chairs that weren't really working in the tv room, cleared the middle space and organized everything in baskets.  Well, everything that was left after the clear out that is.  There is still a little more to do but 100% improvement already.

I found this a short while later.  It's amazing how much this room is used now.  They know where everything is and like having the floor to play and the chairs to sit in.  Obs.

On a separate note, this is what you don't want to happen when things get delivered.  Note to all delivery drivers out there: DO NOT open pallets with knives.  They cut things.  And then I have to deal with horrible customer service to have your stupidity remedied.  (Note note: I do not think the delivery guy was stupid.  His act was stupid.  Although common sense would have said not to use a knife.  Note of note of note: common sense does not equal brain smarts).

Weekend Glimpses, Craziness and Cake Pops

Lots happening behind the scenes over here...stay tuned, lots coming your way!   But something amazing happened over the weekend.  I found out that apparently the Monkey loves me more than a cake pop!!  That's right, she told me she loves me more than a cake pop.  That's pretty hard to beat.  Highest of all the high compliments, like ever.  Well, maybe loving me more than Frozen would be the highest, but more than a cake pop?  I'll take it.

As for right now, finally getting around to posting weekend glimpses.  There was some crafting going on, lots of Elsa braids (for those who aren't in the know, Elsa has a big braid down the side in the movie Frozen.  The Monkey is ob-sessed with Frozen and her hair being in an Elsa braid), a trip to the farmers market with all sorts of goodies being picked up, in which the prince wasn't letting those farm fresh eggs go anywhere..., music and cooking and trains leaving the station, and finally swimming.

Whew!  I'm exhausted!!  Now you know why it took me so long to get these pictures up! :)

For the love of froyo!

We have a problem.  It's called frozen yogurt, donuts, pancakes and my children may be addicted.   While stopping at Peet's to pick up a coffee the other morning, the Prince and I were walking back to the car when we walked by a frozen yogurt place.  Prince: 'We going to get frozen yoooogurt??'  Me in my head: 'how does a 2 year old remember there is frozen yogurt there?  Oh ya, that's his main calorie source these days.'  Now, this isn't the only frozen yogurt store we've been to.  And his hands were full with an oatmeal squeezy and a scone he talked me in to at Peet's.  After he finished breakfast about 30 minutes prior (disregard previous note about only calorie source...duh).  So the boy wasn't hungry.  No siree.

Here is what ensued:

P: We going to get frozen yooooogurt?
Me: No, it's not open.
P: But I want it!
Me: Well, it's not open right now so we can't get any.
P: But I waaaaant froooozen yoooogurt.
Me: You know what? We can come back another day when they're open, okay?
P: Ahhhh.  I wanted it.  I want frozen yooooogurt. (insert sad, mommy you're breaking my heart little boy voice)
Me: Sorry.

Note to self, find a route to Peet's that doesn't involve walking past frozen yogurt.  Or any other food establishment.  In light of this recent event, I present the food montage...apparently it's what we do.

PS...I just looked back over the last weekend glimpses and it is obvious this is what we do to anyone who has looked at a single picture posted.  I am so late to catch on.
